Back in August the adorable Susie, a collie whippet x, came to stay at our kennels. Sadly her elderly owner had been diagnosed with lung cancer and had been taken into hospital. Throughout her stay the owner’s granddaughter kept in regular contact with us and tentatively made enquiries that should her grandfather not recover then what would the chances of JFD being able to find her a loving home?
We were all relieved and delighted that after several weeks at Mansell Meadows Susie returned home to her owner when he was discharged from hospital.
From that day she has remained close by his side, a devoted, faithful friend and a great source of comfort to him. Sadly, a few weeks ago her owner passed away and along with all the distress, for the close family, this causes they were also left with the problem of doing the right thing by Susie. A friend stepped in and offered Susie a retirement home but unfortunately she did not get along with the other dog, so the granddaughter once more turned to JFD.
Susie has now been here for a couple of weeks and as was the case in the summer she has adapted brilliantly to kennel life, enjoying her walks, eating well and keeping her sleeping quarters incredibly clean. However, we are anxious to find this beautiful elderly lady a warm and loving home, not just for her sake but in memory of her previous owner she so adored.
